one foot in front of the other

If we had to describe week 5 in one word, ‘exhaustive’ would be it.

We are tired. There have been several moments during the past week in which we seriously questioned if we can do this. Our bodies are shutting down and mentally we’re having a rough go. There have been times mid-run where we have to stop on the side of the road because we breakdown. It’s a curious sight for the locals, I’m sure, watching us foreign runners stop suddenly on the side of the road, and sit momentarily crouched with teary eyes, as we question if we can make it.

Some days it feels like we spend all 24 hours in pain. Our joints ache, our muscles sieze up, and we’re too exhausted to eat, but too hungry to sleep. I think we’ve talked to a doctor or physiotherapist everyday this week and our dear Anna is working over-time.

Patrick, our support runner (our very own Sam Gamgee), is at this point carrying us through. He is running the kilometers that we are too sick/injured to complete. This week he is carrying the torch and he is doing a remarkable job.

In the meantime, we are attempting to put one foot in front of the other. And on days where even that is impossible, we get through with the help of our team.

    Hello all:
Lara Lauzon here, checking in from Victoria, B.C. First of all, congratulations to all of you for making it this far. You are all truly amazing. You remind me that the impossible is actually possible, it just takes a little longer. Secondly, know that you can change, re-arrange, slow down, speed up and also rest if you want to. It took me 52 years to figure that out! You will do what you can do. You are doing what you can do. You have already defied the odds. As you say, one step at a time. Our family’s thoughts are with you each and every day. Please continue to take good care of each other. I’ll look up some quotes of the day to send tomorrow. Love to all of you. Lara

I am sure that you can do this thing! It is something wonderful for the region and especially now that you have seen the divide between the haves and the have-nots in Africa. I will continue to follow your movements across Africa and all my prayers will be with you.

Our club newsletter is too smal to carry all your reports and coments so we are putting together a special edition with everythin in it for those that do not have access to internet/e-mail so that everyone can see what you are attempting for our continent.

God bless you and keep you safe and healthy in your endeavour.

    Frank

I know that you are having one heck of a hard couple of weeks. Remember that you are amazing, you are strong enough, you can do this. Enjoy every minute or rest, laughter and please keep eating and eating… We all know that this is tremendously painful, but we all know that you can do it. I so wish I was there to try and take the pain away, but Anna is doing an amazing job. Lots of love to all of you.
